BSE, NSE shut on Monday for Ganesh Chaturthi

Indian stock markets, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, will remain closed for trading on Monday, September 5, on account of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Also, the debt and foreign exchange markets will remain closed on Monday.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival lasts for 10 days during which the God is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees.

Stock markets will resume trade on Tuesday, September 6.

On Friday, the Indian equity market closed the week on a positive note as indices erased initial losses on Friday and closed higher. The BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 109 points at 28,532. The BSE Sensex opened at 28,499 touched an intra-day high of 28,582 and low of 28,428. The NSE Nifty closed with a gain of 35 points at 8,810. The NSE Nifty opened at 8,796 hitting a high of 8,824 and low of 8,768.

The rupee closed higher against US Dollar on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks amid a firm domestic equity market. Besides, weakness in the dollar against some other currencies overseas ahead of a crucial US jobs report supported the rupee.
